Al-Tariq Best, known as Mr. HUBB, is the founder of The HUBB Arts & Trauma Center and FP YouthOutCry Foundation. His journey began in 2006 when his son asked what he was doing to be part of the solution after witnessing violence in Newark. That question redirected his decades of music, media, and entrepreneurial experience toward trauma-informed youth development. Today, The HUBB has reached more than 21,000 young people and family members, developed approximately 15 programs, created over 70 employment opportunities, and built a 20,000-square-foot community safe haven.
He created the 3E Model—Entertainment, Education, and Empowerment—to engage youth through creative arts, connect them to education and workforce development, and support deeper healing through mentoring, restorative justice, and clinical care. Under the motto “Where Broken Crayons Still Color,” The HUBB responded to more than 4,500 community incidents and conducted over 600 mediations in 2024. Even after approximately $900,000 in funding losses, the organization continued providing clinical sessions, healing circles, and therapeutic arts. Al-Tariq is now leading The HUBB HELPS Youth-Focused Trauma Recovery Center toward becoming a first-of-its-kind licensed center.
