Cameron Martin & Tameisha Martin

get in touch

Cameron and Tameisha Martin are the founders of Love Is Key LLC, born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Their love story began long before their business journey. Although they attended the same elementary school, they did not begin dating until the eighth and ninth grades. After high school, they pursued different paths. Cameron followed his dream of a career in law enforcement, while Tameisha attended the University of Missouri–Kansas City, where she earned her Master’s in Social Work. Life took an unexpected turn when Cameron’s law enforcement dreams came to an end, forcing them to pivot. They married in January 2018, the same year they officially established Love Is Key on paper.

In 2019, they were introduced to mentors and a business environment that helped them develop their mindset, expand their network, and gain a deeper understanding of business and finances. By following their mentors’ financial guidance, they saved their initial $10,000 in seed money to fully launch Love Is Key. That same year, they landed their first major catering job, which received news coverage and significant publicity, marking the beginning of their growth in the catering industry. Winning Kansas City Favorites for catering opened more doors and expanded their presence in the Kansas City market.

As newlyweds and new business owners, the COVID-19 pandemic brought fear, uncertainty, and countless challenges. While many businesses closed or retreated, they chose to keep moving forward. Through prayer, faith, and perseverance, they launched their first physical location. They also participated in two business pitch competitions, winning both, which provided resources to hire more employees and continue growing.

The following year, they transitioned into a larger location in the Wonder Building and launched their food truck. After a comprehensive business analysis conducted by UMKC student consultants, they received a recommendation to close their physical location and focus on corporate catering and the food truck. They trusted that guidance, made the transition, and watched the business soar. They began securing major contracts with global food service management companies, schools, and corporations, allowing Love Is Key to expand its reach and impact. As the business grew, so did their family. They welcomed their daughter, Dream. The pregnancy and delivery were life-altering: Tameisha experienced serious complications that nearly cost her life, while baby Dream, weighing just two pounds, fought for her life in the NICU. During one of the most challenging seasons of their lives, their team came together and kept the business moving forward.

That dedication reminded them that Love Is Key had become much more than a business — it had become a family, a community, and a legacy worth building. Today, they are focused on expanding Love Is Key into stadiums, additional corporations, and new states. They have also launched the Food Truck Association of Greater Kansas City, an organization dedicated to helping other mobile food businesses grow, create jobs, expand opportunities, and build lasting legacies. Their journey shows that when faith, love, and purpose come together, anything is possible. Love Is Key — Where Flavor Meets Love.
