Christy Knecht is the founder of Blooming Kids Too, a nonprofit providing an interdisciplinary, community-based continuum of care for children and families with complex developmental, behavioral, communication, and educational needs. With nearly three decades of experience, Christy is known for successfully working with children that traditional systems often struggle to serve.

Through Blooming Kids Too and its FARM-based program, Christy helps children build skills that transfer into real life, home, school, friendships, and the community. Her philosophy is simple: Regulation before expectations. Relationship before demand. The bump isn't the point; the rebound is. Her ultimate goal is to build a community where accessibility means more than getting through the door, it means belonging, because everybody gets to bloom TOO.

IN THIS EPISODE YOU’LL LEARN:

  • That behavior is communication, not random defiance or manipulation, and what children need may be hidden in what they do.
  • How regulation before expectation creates a foundation where learning and connection can actually happen.
  • Why being child-considered means holding expectations while adapting the pathway to each child's nervous system and needs.
  • How environment works as part of the intervention when children are excluded or labeled as too difficult.
  • That relationship before demand reduces escalation and builds trust with children who have been failed by systems.
  • Why the bump isn't the point and the rebound is, because recovery skills matter more than perfection.
  • How skills must generalize to real life across home, school, friendships, and community settings.
  • That support should ultimately create independence instead of dependence on constant adult control and prompting.
  • Why inclusion benefits entire families and communities when accessibility means belonging, not just entry.
  • That everybody gets to participate TOO because exclusion ends where environments and relationships are redesigned.
